New Developments

6 homes in Codford completed November 2010

 2 x 3 bed 5 persons & 4 x 2 bed 4 persons homes

Work commenced on an additional 6 homes to compliment the Associations existing stock of 16 properties in this village, in February 2010.

The homes were completed in November 2010 and let to people with a local connection to the village.

The homes are being built on land acquired from Wiltshire Council.  The homes meet Sustainable Homes Code Level 4 and as such will be economical for residents to live in.

We have worked very closely with the Parish Council to ensure that these much needed homes are built to benefit the local community.

4 homes in Corsley completed February 2011

4 x 2 bed 4 persons homes

Work commenced on the 4 homes in May 2010 and will be let to people with a local connection to the village.

The homes were built on land acquired on a long lease from Wiltshire Council.  The homes meet Sustainable Homes Code Level 4 and will therefore be economical for residents to live in.

The Association is always working on several possible developments at anyone time, currently we are working on 11 developments; although not all of them will be successful!

Major changes are being made to the arrangements for the grant that is needed to enable us to build new affordable rented homes.  Not surprisingly the grants available have been much reduced.

In future all housing associations will have to find much more of the cost of new homes from their own resources and also by charging higher rents for the new homes provided.

The Board have thought about this very carefully at WRHA and decided that we should continue to develop the much needed new homes but that we would work hard to try to keep rents as affordable as possible.  So we put forward proposals to the funding organisations, the Homes and Communities Agency, to build 45 new village homes over the next 4 years.  There were more bids across England than money available and the likelihood is that we will not be successful in getting grant for all of these.

Nevertheless, over the coming months we will be looking at how we can deliver all 45 new homes and maintain our building programme.

The Association is always looking for additional opportunities to work with local communities to provide more homes and would like to hear from either Parish Council's or Landowner's who are interested in our work to email gill@wrha.co.uk
